Experimental Study on the Determination of Earthy-Musty Odorants in Water by Solid Phase Extraction-Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry
Earthy-musty odor is the most common type of odor in drinking water in China, with Geosmin(GSM)and 2-Methylisoborneol(2-MIB)being the main substances causing the odor. The experiment uses solid phase extraction-gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to determine the earthy-musty odorants GSM and 2-MIB in water, and determines the optimal extraction conditions by optimizing key parameters such as extraction column, elution solvent, elution volume, and extraction rate. The extraction liquid is separated by a chromatographic column and quantified by using internal standard method under the selected ion monitoring mode. The results show that when the concentration is between 2.5~100.0 μg/L,the peak areas of GSM and 2-MIB have a good linear relationship with mass concentration(correlation coefficient r>0.999),the detection limits of the method are 0.50 ng/L and 0.66 ng/L,respectively,and the spiked recovery rate is 91.1%~95.7%,this method is suitable for the determination of GSM and 2-MIB in drinking water sources and algae outbreak water bodies.
