Ship activities may cause damage to the marine ecological environment,which requires the establishment and improvement of a punitive compensation system for ship-derived marine ecological environment damage.The purpose is to encourage responsible parties to operate ships more cautiously and reduce damage to the marine ecological environment through economic means.Based on the characteristics of ship-derived marine ecological environment damage,the basic theory of punitive compensation system is discussed,the fulfilling principles and constituent elements of punitive compensation liability are analyzed,and the suggestions are put forward for the improvement of China's ship-derived marine ecological environment damage punitive compensation system,in order to provide stronger legal support for protecting the marine ecological environment.
