Preparation and Characterization of Polyethy Leneimine Modified Diatomite
Using polyethyleneimine(PEI) and sodium dodecyl sulfate as modifiers,the surface of diatomite particles was modified by impregnation method.The adsorption of diatomite to PEI was investigated.The morphology,particle size,and Zeta potential of the PEI modified diatomite filler were also determined.The influences of modified diatomite filler on filler retention,Zeta potential and drainability of furnish were studied.The results indicated that PEI was effective to modified diatomite.Compared with the unmodified diatomite,Zeta potential of the modified diatomite was changed from electronegative to electropositive.Particle size was also increased.The Zeta potential and particle size of the diatomite particles were 25.03 mV and 14.05 μm,when the equilibrium adsorption concentration of the PEI was 0.24 mg/mL.PEI modified diatomite filler can effectively improve the Zeta potential of the pulp.The filtering performance of pulp was effectively improved.
