With the rapid development of flexible wearable devices, traditional materials such as semiconductors and ceramics cannot be widely used in the field of flexible sensors alone.Natural cellulose, which is derived from various sources,is a good flexible material. However, there are several issues associated with natural cellulose, including its inability to be melted, difficulty in dissolving in conventional solvents, and poor physical and chemical properties. To address these problems, cellulose ether has been developed to enhance natural cellulose. It serves as a green substrate and had shown promising potential in the areas of sensing, energy storage, energy production capacity, and flexible devices. This paper focused on the preparation of cellulose ethers and the latest research progress in cellulose ether-based materials for stress-strain sens-ing,temperature/humidity detection, gas sensing, and ion detection.Additionally,it analysed the application prospects of cellulose ether-based sensors and identified the challenges for future development.
