Review on the Alternative Designs of Microporous Layer Based on Carbon Paper in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell
As a potential electrochemical device, proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)has a wide range of applications,of which the effective water management method needs further exploration.Inappropriate water loading can cause many problems, including degrada-tion of materials and limition of mass transfer of the reactants, thereby compromising the long-term durability of PEMFC.The introduction of the microporous layer(MPL)on the gas diffusion layer(GDL)was proved to be an effective way to improve water management capabilities and performance. The recent research progress of MPL in terms of structure and materials design using carbon paper as the macroporous sub-strate layer was reviewed in this paper, and future research direction of MPL was prospected, which was of great significance for study on im-proving PEMFC performance.
