Effects of Beating Degree and Carbon Fiber Content of Fibrillated PAN Fiber on Properties of Carbon Paper
In this study, composite carbon paper was prepared from fibrillated polyacrylonitrile(PAN)fibers and PAN carbon fibers(re-ferred to as carbon fiber)by wet forming process and carbonization treatment, and the effects of beating degree and carbon fiber content on the properties of carbon paper were explored. The results showed that the tensile strength of carbon paper was better with the decrease of car-bon fiber content. With the increase of the fibrillation degree(beating degree)of PAN fibers, the tensile strength of carbon paper was bet-ter.The resulting carbon paper had excellent air permeability,as well as good flexibility and tensile strength at the same time. The carbon paper with the best overall performances had permeability of 465.4 mm/s and tensile strength of 2.0 MPa.
