Research on the Paper Productions in the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River During the Ming,Qing and Republic of China Period Based on Local Chronicles Materials
Based on local chronicles,this paper collected information on the types of ancient paper and their production sites in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the Ming,Qing and Republic of China period.It preliminarily organized the types of ancient paper and their spatial-temporal distribution of production sites in this region,gradually exploring the types of ancient paper and their production sites.Research had shown that paper products were widely distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River,with a total of 237 origin information collected,with Hunan being the most abundant.At the same time,the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River had a rich variety of paper products,including bast paper,bamboo paper,grass paper,cotton paper,etc.During the Qing Dynasty and Republic of China period,the types of paper products developed from traditional paper such as bark paper and grass paper to bamboo paper and then mixed with various raw materials for papermaking.The quality also significantly improved,which was a common result of the comprehensive utiliza-tion of natural resources and the improvement of paper making technology.
