Preparation of High-strength Barrier Packaging Paper from Guanidine Salt-modified Nanocellulose
Nanocellulose was oxidated by sodium periodate to introduce dialdehyde groups, followed by grafting the guanidium salt to obtain the modified nanocellulose. Then the guanidinium-grafted nanocellulose was utilized as coating material for surface coating and combined with zein,to produce the double layer coated paper with guanidinium-grafted nanocellulose as the inner layer and zein as the outer layer. The results showed that the guanidium salt was successfully grafted onto the surface of dialdehyde nanocellulose,as well as giving antibacte-rial properties to nanocellulose. The double layer coating method effectively improved the oil and water resistance, tensile strength, and burst strength of paper. The oil resistance grade reached 9,the Cobb60 value decreased to 46.1 g/m2. The tensile strength and burst strength reached 6.30 kN/m and 267 kPa,respectively, and the prepared packaging paper exhibited excellent oil-water barrier properties and me-chanical strength.
