Research on Improving the Performances of Recycled Fibers with Mechanically Refining of Chemical Pulp
The bleached kraft hardwood pulp was used to simulate the paper recycling process, and the PFI refining was used to study its ef-fects on the recycled fiber properties and the physical properties of resulted paper. The results showed that mechanically refining treatment during fiber recycling could significantly improve the performances of fibers and their papers.Compared with fibers without mechanically re-fining treatment, the decrease in water retention value and degree of hornification of fibers after mechanically refining treatment were re-duced.The tensile index, tearing index, and bursting index of paper were increased, respectively. The specific surface area, average pore volume, and pore size of fibers were higher than those without mechanically refining treatment. Moreover, after being recycled for six times, the fibers treated with mechanically refining still retained more fine fibers on their surface, resulting good bonding between the fibers.
