Simulation Test Study of Traditional Handmade Papers in the Protective Facing Treatments of Oil Painting Restoration
In this study, the performance requirements of paper for protective facing treatments were identified, and then the physicochemi-cal properties of traditional handmade paper were analysed using instruments.Bamboo paper B3,xuan paper XI,and bark paper X5 made of Pteroceltis tatarinowii Maxim were screened out, which were more closely related to the requirements in general, and the practicability and effectiveness were verified with the help of simulated experiments. The results showed that certain traditional handmade papers were suitable for protective facing treatment in oil painting restoration, exhibiting superior performance to the currently common-used materials in terms of removal and residual fibers'cleaning after the facing. The long-fiber bark paper was easier to handle and easier for removal, and the short-fiber bamboo paper's residual fibers were more readily to be cleaned.
