Self-assembly of Natural Polymer-embedded Single Cells for Biomedical Applications
Layer-by-Layer self-assembly method for preparation of natural polymer functionalized materials has emerged as a promising re-search direction in recent years, owing to its straight forward operation, gentle reaction conditions, and flexibility in adapting the shell layer structure. This review outlined the use of natural polymers like starch, chitosan, sodium alginate, gelatine, and cellulose to create single-cell shell layers through electrostatic Layer-by-Layer self-assembly.It also discussed the impact of the self-assembly process on the properties such as cell activity and pH tolerance, offering insight into the potential application of immobilized cells in biomedicine.
