Effect of Binder Type on Forming and Physical Properties of Heat-not-burn Reconstituted Tobacco Sheets
Combined with the pulp characteristics of heat-not-burn reconstituted tobacco sheets by thick slurry method, the study investigated the effects of binder type and dosage on the forming and physical properties of reconstituted tobacco sheets.By characterizing the physico-chemical properties of tobacco powder and analyzing the Zeta potential and cation demand, the viscosity stability and physical properties of re-constituted tobacco sheets were compared under different dosage of four types of binder:sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl guar gum and xanthan gum.The results showed that the viscosity of thick slurry increased from 23403 mPa·s to 27546 mPa·s with 3%xanthan gum addition(relative to the absolute dry amount of tobacco powder),and the homogeneity of reconstituted tobacco sheets was up to 92,the tensile index was 3.55 N·m/g,the tightness was 1.12 g/cm3,and the permeability was reduced to 0.30 μm/(Pa·s).In ad-dition,when the dosage of xanthan gum was lower than 3%and the hydroxypropyl guar gum was lower than 2%,the stability of heat-not-burn reconstituted tobacco sheets was better, the forming was effectively improved, and physical properties were enhanced.
