The Cherry Orchard is the last play by playwright An-ton Chekhov, and is generally regarded as a classic of 20th-century theatre. Therefore, it could be use for a reference for understanding the writer's writing status and style in his later years. This work reflects writer's melancholy optimism and unique aesthetic concepts, such as the gradual disappearance of the poetic life after collision with the civilization in the new era. (朱怡虹, 2005)This symbolizes the help-lessness brought by the disappearance of beauty in the process of the social development and human progress. This essay analyzes the aes-thetic concepts in the work chiefly from three aspects: the reflection of modernism, the reflection of lyricism, and the use of symbolism.
