Results of cochlear implantation in adults with prelingual deafness generally considered poor in previ-ous studies.Long-term auditory deprivation causes patients to miss the critical period of speech development. The audi-tory cortex of the brain has physiological changes such as intercortical decoupling and cross-modal reorganization. In re-cent years, research on cochlear implantation in prelingually deaf adults has gradually attracted the attention of the aca-demic community. This review mainly focuses on the pathophysiological basis of auditory cortex changes caused by long-term auditory deprivation, reviews the factors affecting postoperative outcomes of patients in previous studies and concludes the evaluation methods of postoperative outcomes.
