Hydrogel is generally composed of a three-dimensional network structure with strong hydrophilicity, which is a semi-solid aggregation gel with soft tissue characteristics. It can not only maintain a specific form, but also achieve diffusion and penetration of drug molecules from the gel matrix.Because of its unique network structure and high viscosity,it is more conducive to retention of drugs in the middle ear cavity.Compared with drug solutions,hydro-gel via intratympanic injection can reduce administration frequency and achieve sustained drug release. In this paper,we reviewed the classification, characteristics, efficacy and progress of research on hydrogels based local drug delivery sys-tems for inner ear drug administration.
