The protein product mGluR7 encoded by the metabolic glutamate receptor 7 gene(GRM7)mainly ex-ists in the inner and outer hair cell and spiral ganglion cells of the cochlea. In addition to coupling with Gi/o-protein and inhibiting the formation of adenylate cyclase and cAMP,mGluR7 also regulates synaptic function through inward rectifi-er potassium channels coupled with G protein,it also regulates the concentration and transmission of glutamate between hair cell and afferent nerve dendrites. At present, research on GRM7 mainly focuses on mental disorders, while there is relatively little research on the GRM7 gene in age-related hearing loss. The specific pathogenic mechanism by which GRM7 causes age-related deafness remains unclear. This article aims to review the research progress on GRM7 gene mu-tations related to age-related deafness,to promote studies of their mechanisms in causing deafness and to update related treatment measures.
