The formation, structure, and physiological metabolism of human bones and otoliths are similar.Ab-normal bone metabolism in osteoporosis(OP)has been extensively studied. Some studies on otoliths shedding in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)suggest a close correlation with human bone metabolism.Vitamin D and estrogen are important bone metabolism indicators in osteoporosis.Otolith related proteins in BPPV include Otoconin-90(OC90),Otolin-1,Plasma membrane calcium ATPase 2(PMCA2),Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate phos-phate oxidase 3(NOx3,NADPH oxidase 3 for short),etc.Based on the close relationship between bone metabolism and vitamin D and estrogen, this article summarizes research on the correlation between bone metabolism indicators and oto-lith related proteins in BPPV,and discuss on the quantitative relationship, the role of vitamin D and estrogen in the oc-currence of BPPV and repeated otolith shedding,to provide new ideas and inspiration for future research on the mecha-nism by which bone metabolism influences otolith shedding in BPPV.
