Smoking is a major global public health problem,and its harmful effects on health are well known.In recent years,there have been increasing reports on the impact of cigarette smoke on human ear diseases and hearing.Harmful substances in cigarette smoke can lead to middle ear mucosal tissue damage and decrease in eustachian tube surface active substances,cause inflammation,increase the invasiveness of pathogenic bacteria,and even affect immune functions,causing middle ear diseases.In addition,harmful components in cigarette smoke can also damage cochlear hair cells,leading to hearing loss by affecting blood circulation in the human auditory system.This article summarizes the progress of research on effects of cigarette smoke on middle ear-eustachian tube mucosal tissue damage and hearing.
