Engineering Application of Low-temperature Secondary Refrigerant Ethylene Glycol and Propylene Glycol Aqueous Solutions
The low-temperature secondary refrigerant ethylene glycol and propylene glycol aqueous solutions are widely used in low-temperature refrigerating system. It is necessary to understand their characteristics for engineering applications and safe operation.A comparative analysis was conducted on the thermal physical properties, corrosiveness, safety and environmental protection performance, and economy of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol aqueous solutions, and solutions were proposed for common engineering problems. The results show that the frost resistance, pipeline resistance drop, and heat transfer performance of ethylene glycol aqueous solution are superior to those of propylene glycol aqueous solution, good economy;Ethylene glycol has low toxicity and is not easily biodegradable, the toxicity and irritation of aqueous solutions are greater, strong corrosiveness;Propylene glycol is non-toxic,easily biodegradable, and its aqueous solution is safer and more environmentally friendly.
