Clinical Study on the Relationship between Demodex Infection and Stele by Laser Confocal Microscopy in Vivo
Objective In vivo confocal laser microscope(IVCM)was used to observe the ocular demodex infection in patients with stye and chalazion,so as to provide reference for analyzing the influence of demodex infection on the occurrence of stye. Methods A total of 45 patients(45 eyes)who received treatment in Shanghai Aier Eye Hospital from June to December 2022 were selected as the stye group and 45 patients(45 eyes)with no history of chalazion were selected as the chalazion group. In vivo confocal laser microscopy(IVCM)was used to observe the infection of demodex in the eyelid margin of each patient, and 8 hair follicles and 8 meibomian glands in the upper and lower eyelid margin were selected for observation.≥3 cases of demodex were positive,1≤demodex<3 was suspected positive, and no demodex was negative. Results Under in vivo laser confocal microscopy, the positive rates of demodex infection were 73.30%(33 eyes)and 44.44%(20 eyes)in stye group and chalazion group, respectively. The suspected positive rates were 31.11%(14 eyes)and 11.10%(5 eyes),and the negative rates were 15.60%(7 eyes)and 24.44%(11 eyes); The rate of positive infection in the stye group was significantly higher than that in the chalazion group, the difference was statistically significant(P=0.013).Conclusion Compared with chalazion, the infection rate of demodex is higher in the patients with stye, and demodex infection may also be one of the pathogenic factors or the occurrence of stye.
