Screening Significance of Early Thalassemia of Children
Objective To analyze value of early thalassemia screening for pediatric population.Methods The paper chose 3962 newborns in our hospital from December 2020 to December 2022 as study samples,with early thalassemia screening,and analyzed screening results statistically,organized follow-up results of control group of children over a six-month period.Results There were 218 children with thalassemia screened out from 3962 children,accounting for 5.50%,including 145 cases of β0 thalassemia,accounting for 3.66%,69 cases of β+thalassemia,accounting for 1.74%,and 4 cases of other types,accounting for 0.1%.Incidence of developmental delay,intellectual impairment,infection,pathological jaundice,neurological deficits,and death of thalassemia children was significantly higher than normal children,difference between groups was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Thalassemia screening for pediatric population can detect thalassemia as soon as possible,carry on targeted treatment,and reduce incidence of adverse outcomes of children.It is recommended to carry out early thalassemia screening for children as soon as possible during clinical practice.
