Effect of Ionizing Radiation on Expression of Osteopontin of Submandibular Gland of Rats
Objective To observe expression changes of osteopontin(OPN)in submandibular glands of rats after irradiation, and explore its relationship with decreased salivary gland secretion function induced by ionizing radiation. Methods The paper divided rats into control group and irradiation group randomly, with 5 cases in each group.irradiation group rats was irradiated with 15 Gy X-ray at submandibular gland area.Rats were euthanized at 3 and 30 days after irradiation, and bilateral submandibular glands were removed. After fixation, routine paraffin embedding and sectioning were performed, changes in OPN expression in submandibular glands were observed after immunohistochemical staining. Results Expression of OPN in submandibular gland of rats increased at 3 and 30 days after irradiation, that of 30 day group was higher than 3 day group. Conclusion Decrease in salivary gland secretion function after irradiation may be related to increase of OPN expression.
