Curative Effect Observation of BiPAP for Elderly Patients with Severe Pneumonia
Objective To explore the effect of non-invasive dual level positive airway pressure (BiPAP) treatment for elderly patients with severe pneumonia. Methods The study period was from January 2022 to December 2022,with 76 elderly patients with severe pneumonia as research subjects. According to the random number table method, they were divided into two groups:the control group (38) and the observation group (38),treated with nasal cannula low flow oxygen therapy and BiPAP therapy respectively. Clinical symptom improvement time, lung function level, blood gas indicators, and incidence of complications were compared between two groups. Results Disappearance time of fever, lung rales, cough, and white blood cell count recovery in the observation group was shorter than the control group (P<0.05). The forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) of the observation group was higher than the control group after treatment,(P<0.05). After treatment, the arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2) in the observation group was higher than the control group, and the arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure (PaCO2) was lower than the control group,(P<0.05). Incidence of complications in the observation group was lower than the control group (P>0.05). Conclusion BiPAP can improve clinical symptoms, promote lung function recovery, improve blood gas indicators significantly, and help prognosis of elderly patients with severe pneumonia, which is worthy of promotion.
