Mitochondria,as body's energy factory,have their own separate genome—mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA).Normal energy supply of mitochondria is of great importance to myocardium,a high energy consuming tissue,while mtDNA can affect the energy supply of mitochondria to a certain extent.According to the latest Global Burden of Disease study,cardiovascular disease(CVD)is the top cause of death,and coronary heart disease(CHD)is one of the leading causes of death for CVD patients.As a newly discovered biomarker,mtDNA has a strong correlation with the pathogenesis,potential therapeutic targets and prognosis of CHD.In this article,we review the research progress of the correlation between mtDNA and CHD.
