Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) are complex in etiology and high in incidence, with related signs and symptoms commonly seen in adolescents and adults, including orthodontic patients. The abnormal occlusion associated with malocclusion is often consideredby clinicians as a potential factor of TMD,and the relationship between the two has attracted much attention. In addition, orthodontic treatment of malocclusion is inevitably accompanied by occlusal changes, and the relationship between occlusal changes and the occurrence and development of TMD is still uncertain. In this paper, the correlation between malocclusion and temporomandibular joint disorders was reviewed, and the relationship between malocclusion, orthodontic treatment and TMD was analyzed in depth,so as to provide reference for clinical response to joint problems.
