Current research on early diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment and screening methods
Mild cognitive impairment(MCI)is a transitional state between normal aging and dementia.Cognitive decline in the MCI stage is reversible to a certain extent,so early diagnosis and effective intervention are essential to reduce or delay the occurrence of dementia. In this paper, after summarizing and examining the existing screening methods for MCI,it becomes clear to us that although methods for MCI diagnosis are currently available, there are no universally accepted criteria. The combination of multiple methods leads to high cost and is difficult to be widely implemented in primary medical service institutions, while a single method may result in misdiagnosis or false positives. Therefore,it is urgent to carry out relevant research, establish an economical and efficient screening system for early diagnosis and early intervention, and maximally delay or prevent the progression of cognitive decline to dementia.
