The majority of speech acts take place in face-to-face communication situations,where individuals use both auditory and visual information to comprehend verbal communication.Audiovisual speech integration plays a crucial role in social communication.However,impairments in sensory and neurological functions in older adults can significantly affect their ability to integrate audiovisual speech.This paper aims to introduce the phenomenon of audiovisual speech integration and its neural processing mechanism.It also analyzes the results of previous research on audiovisual speech integration in older adults and highlights the areas that require further investigation.The findings can serve as a reference for addressing language difficulties in an aging society.
