HoLEP versus TURP in improving the prostate function, oxidative stress indicators and sexual function of the patient with BPH
Objective:To compare the effect of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate(HoLEP)with that of transurethral resection of the prostate(TURP)on the prostate function, oxidative stress indicators and sexual function of the patient with BPH.Methods:We randomly assigned 100 BPH patients to receive HoLEP(n=50)or TURP(n=50)in our hospital from June 2021 to June 2023,and compared the perioperative parameters, prostate function, oxidative stress indicators, sexual function and postopera-tive complications between the two groups. Results:The intraoperative blood loss was significantly less and the time of catheterization, bladder irrigation and hospital stay remarkably shorter in the HoLEP than in the TURP group(P<0.05).The postoperative IPSS and quality of life(QOL)scores were markedly lower, level of superoxide dismutase(SOD)higher, content of malondialdehyde(MDA)and total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)lower,IIEF-5 and Erection Hardness Grading Scale(EHGS)scores higher, and incidence of postoperative complications lower in the HoLEP than in the TURP group(all P<0.05).Conclusion:HoLEP is superior to TURP in improving the prostate function, oxidative stress indicators and sexual function of the patient with BPH.
