Utilizing a systematic literature review methodology and employing the"2W1H"knowledge framework,this study systematically synthesizes the current state of research on idle homesteads using literature from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)database spanning the years 2000 to 2022 as its sample.The research findings reveal the following insights:Regarding the question"What is an idle homestead(What),"existing literature offers interpretations from both narrow and broad perspectives,encompassing four measurement approaches and three categories of homestead idleness.Concerning the query"Why do idle homesteads exist,and what are their consequences(Why),"which delves into the causes of idle homesteads,it primarily revolves around three theoretical viewpoints:urbanization,administrative management,and legal systems,all while emphasizing the negative ramifications of idle homesteads.Lastly,regarding the inquiry"How can idle homesteads be effectively remediated(How),"this study summarizes the governance model innovations and homestead exit policies that have been the focal points of existing research,offering personal insights on this foundation.
