Epimedium brevicornu,as one of the characteristic medicinal herbs in Gansu Province.The annual production of E.brevicornu exceeds 600 t and shows a year-by-year growth trend.At the same time,the annual medicinal demand is around 4000 t～5 000 t,industrial value with a huge market demand.The paper offers an in-depth analysis of advancements in scientific studies concerning the pharmacological confirmation,geographical spread,tame and growth practices,and the commercial advancement of E.brevicornu.It analyzes the current situation of the industry and identifies several issues that severely constrain the sustainable and high-quality development of the E.brevicornu industry in Gansu,such as the shortage of wild resources,imbalanced supply-demand relationship,difficulty in artificial cultivation,weak quality control,inadequate funding,and insufficient policy support.In response to these issues,the following development strategies are proposed:rescuing endangered E.brevicornu resources and establishing resource cultivation bases;accelerating the research on key technologies for artificial breeding and promoting the ecological cultivation process of E.brevicornu;and increasing policy support to facilitate the establishment of quality evaluation and control methods for E.brevicornu.This study provides reference for the sustainable utilization and high-quality development of E.brevicornu resources in Gansu.
