The development of the Chinese herbal medicine industry under the forest needs to balance the relationship between ecological protection and economic development. Emergy Theory and analysis methods quantitatively analyze the ecological,economic efficiency and sustainable development capabilities of the system,which can provide theoretical support and methodological guarantee for the sustainable development of the under-forest Chinese medicinal materials industry. This paper discusses the basic concepts and application scope of the Emergy Theory and analysis method,the significance and steps of its application in the ecological eco-nomic system of understory traditional Chinese medicinal materials,and points out the problems existing in the application of the system's emergy,including calculation methods,emergy conversion rates,system boundary definition,etc.,puts forward corresponding solutions to the problems and discusses the future development direction,aiming to provide standardized suggestions for the applica-tion of the emergy method in the ecological economic system of understory traditional Chinese medicinal materials,so as to promote the further development of emergy research in the field of under-forest Chinese medicinal materials.
