Clinical effects of Tongfu Xingshen Decoction combined with abdominal acupuncture plus warm acupuncture and moxibustion on elderly patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment
AIM To investigate the clinical effects of Tongfu Xingshen Decoction combined with abdominal acupuncture plus warm acupuncture and moxibustion on elderly patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment.METHODS Ninety-eight patients were randomly assigned into control group (49 cases) for 1-month intervention of both abdominal acupuncture and warm acupuncture and moxibustion, and observation group (49 cases) for 1-month intervention of Tongfu Xingshen Decoction, abdominal acupuncture and warm acupuncture and moxibustion. The changes in clinical effects,MoCA score,NIHSS score,SDSVD score,ADL score, neurotransmitters (DA,5-HT,NE),hemorheological indices (high shear viscosity, low shear viscosity, plasma viscosity, hematocrit),hemodynamic indices (average blood flow velocity, average blood flow volume, characteristic impedance, dynamic impedance),cell apoptosis indices (Bcl-2,Bax,Caspase3).RESULTS The observation group demonstrated higher total effective rate than the control group (P<0.05).After the treatment, the two groups displayed increased MoCA score,ADL score, neurotransmitters, average blood flow velocity, average blood flow volume,Bcl-2 (P<0.05),and decreased NIHSS score,SDSVD score, hemorheological indices, characteristic impedance, dynamic impedance,Bax,Caspase3 (P<0.05),especially for the observation group (P<0.05).CONCLUSION For the elderly patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment,Tongfu Xingshen Decoction combined with abdominal acupuncture plus warm acupuncture and moxibustion can improve cognitive functions and enhance clinical efficacy.
