Effects of four sugars on the growth of watermelon grafted seedlings and rootstock germination
Four kinds of sugars(D-ribose,sorbose,glucose,sucrose)were used to treat gourd rootstock shoot buds to suppress lateral bud growth and reduce the workload of manual removal of rootstock buds after grafting 10 days. Results showed that the four sugar solution spray treatments could significantly reduce the rootstock lateral bud germination rate and average leaf area.On the 14th and 28th day of treatment, the plant height and chlorophyll content of the scion treated with glucose were the highest, there was no significant difference between the D-ribose treatment and the control, and the effect of sorbose treatment was the worst. The results showed that the use of glucose spray treatment could not only inhibit the germination of rootstock lateral buds, but also promote the growth of grafted seedlings.
