Comparison of photosynthetic characteristics and pigment content of red Chinese chestnut and green Chinese chestnut leaves
Red Chinese chestnut'Hongli 2'and green Chinese chestnut'Yanbao'were used as the materials. The photosynthetic parameters for the diurnal variation of the leaves and light response curve with the red Chinese chestnut and green Chinese chestnut were determined through the Li-6400 portable photosynthetic analyzer.Pigment content in the leaves were also determined using ultraviolet spectrophotometer. To explore the differences in the photosynthetic characteristics of the red Chinese chestnut and green Chinese chestnut leaves. The results showed that there is a clear difference in the net photosynthetic rate between the two colors of Chinese chestnuts. The net photosynthetic rate of green Chinese chestnut is a bimodal curve, and the"midday depression of photosynthesis"phenomenon appears at 13:00 o'clock. The red Chinese chestnut is unimodal, with no obvious"midday depression of photosynthesis"phenomenon. The daily mean of stomatal conductance, transpiration rate and water use efficiency of red Chinese chestnut was greater than that of green Chinese chestnut, while the daily mean of intercellular carbon dioxide concentration was less than that of green Chinese chestnut. The light response curve indicates that red Chinese chestnut has a greater maximum net photosynthetic rate, light compensation point, dark respiration rate, light saturation point and apparent quantum efficiency, which is significantly different from green Chinese chestnut.Analysis of leaf pigment content showed no significant difference in carotenoid content between the two colors of Chinese chestnuts. However, the content of chlorophyll and the content of anthocyanin difference varied significantly. The correlation analysis showed that the maximum net photosynthetic rate, the light saturation point of the light response characteristic parameters have a very significant positive correlation with the anthocyanin content. However, the light compensation point and the dark respiration rate showed a very significant or significant negative correlation with the chlorophyll content.
