The Impact of Customs Clearance Facilitation on Bilateral Trade Levels——Based on the Halo Effect Perspective
In the context of limited space for trade tax reduction, rising trade protectionism, and complex global economic recovery, the trade effect of customs clearance facilitation is worthy of attention.Based on the quasi-natural experiment of authorized economic operator(AEO)mutual recognition in China, the progressive differential model is used to identify the trade effect of customs clearance facilitation from the perspective of the halo effect. The results show that:Customs clearance facilitation has significantly improved China's bilateral trade level, and the conclusion is still valid under a series of robustness tests, and this promoting effect is more prominent among trading partners with low openness, port efficiency and tariffrates. The research findings of this study provide a solid theoretical and empirical foundation for accelerating the implementation of customs clearance facilitation arrangements in China, particularly the promotion of the AEO mutual recognition agreement system.Furthermore, they offer innovative policy insights to advance high-level opening-up and support the construction of a strong trading nation.
