Study on Storage Stability and Water Resistance of Potassium Silicate Waterborne Inorganic Coatings
This paper mainly studied the influence of potassium silicate with different moduli and different kinds of organic latex on the storage stability and water resistance of coatings.Coatings samples were prepared through comparative experiments, and the viscosity, water resistance, and storage stability of the coatings were characterized. The experimental results show that inorganic coatings with potassium silicate modulus of 3.5 have the best storage stability, and coatings with potassium silicate modulus between 3.5 and 3.9 have excellent water resistance;the effects of pure acrylic latex, styrene acrylic latex, and silicone acrylic latex on the coatings performance were compared. The results showed that the potassium silicate waterborne inorganic coatings using styrene acrylic latex had the best storage stability, and the water resistance of styrene acrylic latex and silicone acrylic latex was better than that of pure acrylic latex. The performance of potassium silicate waterborne inorganic coatings prepared by using 3.5 modulus potassium silicate and styrene acrylic latex in this experiment meets the requirements of T/CSTM 00632.3-2022 Technical Requirement for Coatings Used in Architectural Finishing Engineering—Part 3:Inorganic Architectural Coatings System.
