Music,as a material construct, emanates from the intellectual fabric of the creative subject, taking form through the systematic arrangement of its elements, founded upon an intrinsic rhetorical logic.Drawing on Aristotle's concepts of"matter"and"form,"this paper posits that the rhetorical logic of music is an amalgamation of"musical matter"and"musical form."Utilizing this framework, the study delves into the structural tenets of European vocal and instrumental music, with a particular focus on the rhetorical logic underpinning"absolute"instrumental music. This includes the strategic presentation of themes within a tonal architecture and their subsequent development.Five categorical methods of thematic implementation are delineated, serving as the analytical foundation for an investigation into the rhetorical logic prevalent in the music of the twentieth century.
