Fujian province played a pivotal role in the significant"Xiananyang"migratory wave that shaped modern Chinese history.The ancient maritime routes,established primarily for trade,also functioned as vital conduits for the propagation of Chinese musical and cultural traditions beyond its borders.Among these cultural exports,Gaojia Opera,a traditional Fujianese theatrical form,has been particularly notable for its international sojourns,staging performances across various Southeast Asian nations.Transcending geographical boundaries,Gaojia Opera not only found new avenues for growth but also forged a distinct cultural identity in the diaspora,assuming the role of an'other'in foreign contexts.This study focuses on the theatrical troupe from Cendou Village in Shijing Town,Nan'an County,Fujian Province,examining the dynamics of Gaojia Opera's survival,evolution,and cultural transmission in the Nanyang region during the transitional period from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China.
