Wu Jinyang was active in the guqin community of Suzhou and Shanghai during the Republic era.However,historical data concerning him are scarce,and the existing materials contain many errors and ambiguities.This paper,based on newspaper and local chronicle documentation from the Republic era,investigates and verifies his life trajectory,guqin activities,guqin heritage,and qin making.Wu Jinyang participated in guqin activities within social groups such as Yi Garden,Chenfenglu Association,Jingwu Association,and Xing Yu Literary Society.His social network was extensive,and many luminaries,including Mei Lanfang and the family of Shi Liangcai,learned guqin from him.His prominent disciples included Li Mingde,Zhao Yunqing,and Wu Zhaoji.Additionally,he crafted 64 qins,each named after one of the Sixty-four Hexagrams.Wu Jinyang wore multiple hats as a qin master,physician,and Taoist.Although he returned to secular life,the pursuit of Taoism remained his lifelong ambition.
