Effects of Temperature and Variety on Germination and Seedling Growth of Naked Barley
The effects of temperature on naked barley seed germination and seedling growth was studied using four varieties (black, white, dark green and flowers varieties),and the differences of different varieties' seed germination characteristics was analyzed at different temperatures. The results showed that all samples' seeds germination potential, germination rate and germination index increased with increasing temperature in the range of 10-25 ℃,and reached a maximum at 25 ℃.Meanwhile, these seed germination indicators showed a slight decline at 30 ℃.On the other hand, the naked barley seedling growth and biomass was most optimal at 25 ℃.So the seed germination and seedling growth of naked barley were better at lower temperature and 25 ℃ was the best temperature in our study. For different varieties, the seed germination, seedling growth and biomass index were descending in the order of black barley, dark green barley, flower barley and white barley in the same treatment temperature. In the actual production,it must be pay special attention to the selection of appropriate seed sowing for seeds with low germination rate and growth retardation, because low temperature affect seed germination and seedling growth.
