Differences in Germination Rate Among Different Varieties of Rice Seeds and Their Responses to Exogenous Phytohormones
Five different varieties of rice seeds were submitted to a germination test under the same temperature and light conditions, and then the fastest (Linxian No.21) and slowest (Daohuaxiang No.2) varieties in germination rate were used as experimental materials to test and compare their germination responses on exogenous GA3,ABA and ethephon. The results showed that the germination of two varieties of rice seeds was significantly promoted by GA3 and ethephon and significantly inhibited by ABA,and the roles of promotion and inhibition were concentration-dependent and variety-dependent.Nevertheless,the rapidly germinative Linxian No.21 rice seeds were relatively sensitive to GA3 and ethephon and relatively insensitive to ABA,while that of the relatively slow germinative Daohuaxiang No.2 rice seeds were contrary to Linxian No.21 rice seeds. These results seemed to imply why the germination rate of two varieties of rice seeds was different, there were different endogenous phytohormone ratios in them.
