Effects of Drought Stress on Seed Germination and Growth of Three Kinds of Gramineae Forage
In order to understand the drought resistance of three grasses, including Festuca sinensis Keng ex E.B.Alexeev,Elymus dahuricus Turcz.and Bromus inermis Leyss.,PEG-6000 was used to simulate drought con-ditions,and three concentrations of 5%,10%and 15%were designed as permeating medium to study the effects of different drought stress intensity on seed germination and seedling growth of the three kinds of forages. The results showed that the germination growth index of Festuca sinensis Keng ex E.B.Alexeev seeds decreased with the increase of PEG-6000 concentration,of which the germination potential, vigor index, radicle length and dry weight of Festuca sinensis Keng ex E.B.Alexeev seeds were higher than those of control in 5%PEG-6000 solu-tion.Except for the dry weight of seedlings, the seed germination and growth indexes of Bromus inermis Leyss.decreased with the increase of treatment concentration, and the seed germination and growth indexes of 5%PEG-6000 solution were higher than the control, showing a low promotion and high inhibition effect.Under different stress conditions, the seed germination rate, germination potential and germination index of Elymus dahuricus Turcz.were higher than the other two.The results showed that the drought tolerance of Elymus dahuricus Turcz.was strongest among the three forage species, followed by the Festuca sinensis Keng ex E.B.Alexeev,and the Bromus inermis Leyss.had the tolerance to mild drought.
