Contradictory Women and Existential Philosophy under the Gender Dilemma——On Lee Chang-dong's Film Burning
Burning is Lee Chang-dong's representative work.He associates existential philosophy with fe-male characters,engenders them with unique cultural temperament,and conveys his realistic concern and philo-sophical thinking through it.However,bound by the collective unconsciousness of the Korean nation,Lee Chang-dong's film texts also reveal deep-rooted patriarchal cultural concepts.His potential patriarchal thoughts and sym-pathy for women make the female images in the film present contradictory and complex characteristics,full of artis-tic tension.
