Progress of imaging assessment of perineural invasion in rectal cancer
Rectal cancer is one of the common gastrointestinal malignant tumors that seriously affects human survival and quality of life.Total mesorectal excision(TME)is the main method for the treatment of T1-2No rectal cancer, and neoadjuvant therapy is recommended for T3-4 or N+patients.Perineural invasion(PNI)refers to the tumor approaching the nerve and wrapping at least 33%of the nerve circumference or the tumor cells penetrating any of the three layers of the nerve sheath.PNI is an important biological feature and prognostic factor of rectal cancer, and its diagnosis can only be confirmed by postoperative pathology. Before neoadjuvant therapy for advanced rectal cancer patients who cannot be operated,if the PNI status of rectal cancer can be obtained by noninvasive imaging means,it will further improve the personalized diagnosis and influence the prognosis of patients. This article reviews the research progress of imaging evaluation of PNI in rectal cancer.
