Effect of Intense Pulsed Light Combined with Dextran 70 and Glycerol Eye Drops in the Treatment of Moderate-to-Severe Xerophthalmia
Objective To explore the effect of intense pulsed light(IPL)combined with dextran 70 and glycerol eye drops in the treatment of moderate-to-severe xerophthalmia. Methods In total,124 patients with xerophthalmia admitted from April 2021 to March 2023 were selected, and treated with dextran 70 and glycerol eye drops. On this basis,IPL treat-ment was performed on the day of treatment, and at 1,3,and 7 weeks after treatment. The stability of tear film, ocular sur-face condition, meibomian gland function, visual quality, clinical efficacy at different time points, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared among patients. Results Compared with that on the day of treatment, there was a significant in-crease in break-up time(BUT),Schirmer's I test, and Strehl ratio, and a significant reduction in Ocular Surface Disease In-dex(OSDI),Fluorescein Corneal Staining,Meibomian Gland Yielding Secretion Score(MGYSS)and Objective Scatter Index in all patients at weeks 1,3,and 7(P<0.05).Patients reported a higher BUT at weeks 3 and 7 than at week 1,a lower OSDI at week 7 than at weeks 1 and 3,and a lower MGYSS scores at weeks 3 and 7 than at week 1(P<0.05).Compared with that on the day of treatment(98/124,79.03%),the total effective rate of patients increased(P<0.05)at weeks 1,3,and 7 after treatment(110/124,88.71%;113/124,91.13%;115/124,92.74%).No statistical difference was found in the adverse reaction rate on the day of treatment, and at weeks 1,3,and 7 after treatment(P>0.05).Conclusion IPL combined with dextran 70 and glycerol eye drops are effective in the treatment of moderate-to-severe xerophthalmia, which can effectively improve tear film stability, ocular surface integrity, meibomian gland, and visual quality.
