Clinical Study on the Effects of Resveratrol Supplementation on Clinical Parameters and Inflammatory Markers in Patients with Chronic Periodontitis
Objective To evaluate the effect of resveratrol supplementation on clinical parameters and inflammatory markers in patients with chronic periodontitis. Methods A total of 100 patients with chronic periodontitis treated at our hospital were randomly divided into an intervention group ( n=50 ) and a control group ( n=50 ) .The intervention group received resveratrol supplementation, and the control group received a placebo for four weeks.Serum inflammatory markers, including interleukin-6 ( IL-6 ),tumor necrosis factor-alpha ( TNF-α ),and total antioxidant capacity ( TAC ),were measured before and after the intervention.Clinical parameters, including probing depth ( PD ),clinical attachment level ( CAL ),plaque index ( PI ),and bleeding index ( BI ),were assessed. Results The PI in the intervention group was significantly lower than in the control group after four weeks ( P<0.05 ) .However, there were no significant differences in PD,CAL,BI,or serum levels of TNF-α and TAC between the two groups ( P>0.05 ) .Notably,IL-6 levels in the intervention group decreased significantly post-intervent ion ( P<0.05 ) .Conclusion Resveratrol supplementation, combined with non-surgical periodontal treatment, demonstrates potential in improving periodontal health. However, its efficacy in reducing inflammatory markers requires further study.
