Analysis of the Clinicopathological Features and Prognosis of 37 Cases of Esophageal Carcinosarcoma
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features and prognosis of esophageal carcinosarcoma. Methods The clinicopathological features, treatment and prognosis of 37 cases of esophageal carcinosarcoma from August 2014 to May 2022 in The First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were retrospectively analyzed. Results A total of 37 patients were included, aged 42-88 years, with a mean age of (65.31±10.34) years, and 28 (75.7%) were male. Lymph node metastases were present in 16 cases. Clinical staging showed 12 patients in stage Ⅰ,16 in stage Ⅱ,6 in stage Ⅲ,and 3 in stage Ⅳ. Among these,31 patients underwent surgical treatment,2 received endoscopic treatment,2 underwent chemotherapy, and 2 were treated conservatively. Tumor locations included 1 case in the cervical segment,1 in the upper thoracic segment,17 in the middle thoracic segment, and 18 in the lower thoracic segment. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the positive rates of CK,P40,and P63 were 62.2% (23/37),40.5% (15/37),and 43.2% (16/37),respectively. Prognostic analysis indicated that different clini-cal stages and treatment methods were significantly associated with patients' prognosis. Conclusion Esophageal carcinosarcomas are primarily located in the middle and lower thorax, with prognosis significantly influenced by clinical stage and treatment strategies.
