Liver Abscess Treatment by Bilirubin Adsorption Combined with Plasma Exchange
Objective To evaluate the efficacy of bilirubin adsorption (BA) combined with therapeutic plasma exchange in the treatment of hepatic abscess, providing effective evidence-based support for clinical practice. Methods Eligible liver abscess patients treated at Jiangnan University Affiliated Hospital from October 2020 to February 2024 were enrolled. Liv-er function was measured at admission and on the day after 14 days of treatment, and the expression levels of IL-6,IL-1,and TNF-α in venous blood were also measured. The effect of bilirubin adsorption therapy was analyzed. Results A total of 40 eligible patients were included and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 20 patients in each group. The improvement in liver function indicators in the observation group was significantly better than in the control group (P<0.05). The expression levels of inflammatory factors, including IL-6,IL-1,and TNF-α,were significantly lower in the ob-servation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Bilirubin adsorption is beneficial for liver function recovery and reducing inflammatory responses, and helps shorten the liver function recovery time.
