Exploring the Feasibility of Using Hemp Fiber for Papermaking from the Perspective of its Microstructure
The development and utilization of non-wood fiber raw material resources has broadened the source channels of plant fiber, which can solve the shortage of wood raw materials for pulping and papermaking and is in line with China's national conditions. This paper uses hemp stalks, the agricultural and forestry waste,as raw material, and compares hemp fiber with poplar and corn stalks, two commonly used hardwood raw materials for pulping and papermaking, from the perspective of microstructure. It was found that the fiber morphology of hemp stalks is similar to that of poplar wood fibers, with less impurities and good uniformity in length and width distribution, which is in line with the characteristics of pulp raw materials. The experimental results showed that paper made from hemp fiber has good physical properties and can replace part of the existing raw materials, thus alleviating the shortage of fiber raw materials.
