History and Research Status of Handmade Paper in Nepal
As a traditional craft with unique regional characteristics,handmade papermaking in Nepal has attracted more and more attention from handmade papermaking researchers.However,there has been no detailed research on Nepalese handmade paper in China.Based on literature research,this paper introduces in detail the papermaking raw materials,process flow,development history and research status of handmade paper in Nepal.After research and review,it can be found that the raw materials of Nepalese paper are usually selected plants of Thymelaeaceae.One of the most commonly used is the fiber of Daphne papyracea Wall,known locally as Lokta.So Nepalese paper is also called Lokta paper.The papermaking process in Nepal is very similar to that in Xizang.The two papermaking methods are made by paper casting method,and ash is added as a chemical additive when cooking the fiber.Summarizing the papermaking process of Nepalese handmade paper can not only lay a foundation for further exploring the historical origin and development process of Nepalese paper,but also provide a basis for the study of the ancient science and technology history of Nepal.
